Our Motors & Rewinds department was pleased to be involved in the relaunch of the Class 60099 locomotive. The Bowers team completed restoration work on the compressor, fuel pump and oil pump to help prepare the locomotive for its return to service.
DC Rail Class 60099 Locomotive

The Class 60099 was produced in 1992, as part of a fleet that faced a turbulent launch as high demand tested manufacturers to their limits.

From the locomotive’s early days in Nottinghamshire, it hauled stone trains across the country, later taking on a new home at Thornaby depot to move freight throughout the North. Following decades of service and countless miles on the tracks, it was placed into storage in 2015, remaining out of operation until its revival in 2022.

DC Rail purchased several Class 60 locomotives as part of a deal they completed in 2022. This marked the start of this locomotive’s second life. By April 2024, the locomotive was in the UKRL workshop for a full overhaul. This is where Bowers Electricals came on board to support the restoration.
DC Rail approached us to carry out restoration work on the compressor, fuel pump and oil pump, all vital components that had suffered from years of inactivity.

Motor Overhaul and Motor Repair Work from Bowers Electricals

Once these units arrived at our factory, our engineers got straight to work. The oil pump required a complete overhaul, including new bearings, fresh gaskets and a thorough deep clean, while the compressor and fuel pump received similar attention to restore them to full working condition.
Thanks to the skill and efficiency of our team, the components were quickly refurbished, tested and ready to be refitted.
The Class 60099 Locomotive

The Class 60099 has since been revealed with a striking new livery and is now preparing for final testing before returning to mainline service.

We are proud to have played a part in the revival of such a powerful locomotive. We look forward to seeing 60099 moving mountains once again for DCRail and its customers.
This project adds another excellent example to the growing portfolio of our Motors & Rewinds department, which continues to keep historic and industrial machinery running for generations to come.
